Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” is the first university to accept the challenge to take training beyond the boundaries of theory, and to provide students with the maximum of hands-on experience. “As part of the Department of Construction of Buildings and Facilities we create a new generation of Bulgarian builders – innovators cherishing respect for traditions”, says Assoc. According to the Bulgarian Construction Chamber, among the key problems in the construction industry are the growing competition and the shortage of specialized staff. Being one of the biggest branch organizations in the country, it recommends narrower specialization of trainees in a particular area of construction, building company strategies, further staff training and qualification schemes.
VFU offers a wide range of master programmes which provide further training for civil engineers and engineers in fire safety and population protection. Those programmes are open not only to civil engineers, but also to people with higher education degrees in Economics and Technical Engineering. Eligible candidates must have a minimum average score from previous higher education learning “good” 4, and attend an interview at the university.
Building constructions – this master programme has been designed for people who wish to qualify and develop professionally in the area of civil engineering. During the course of training they obtain thorough theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience of designing and making special constructions of buildings and facilities, learn the methodology of design which complies with the national and European standards.
Road construction – this master programme has been designed for people who wish to qualify and develop professionally in the area of building road infrastructure and regional development in Bulgaria. Students obtain further knowledge of design, construction, exploitation and maintenance of road facilities. They obtain knowledge of the European standards for design of road facilities, of the innovative technologies employed in their construction and correct exploitation.
Water supply and sewerage systems and installations – this master programme has been designed for people who wish to gain further qualification in one of the main important areas in construction, which is instrumental in the development of the country – the construction of water supply and sewerage infrastructure. Students will obtain further knowledge of design, construction, exploitation and maintenance of water supply and sewerage systems and installations, as well as of the modern technologies used in the field.
Fire equipment and automation – this master programme trains specialists in the field of fire safety, fire, disaster and rescue equipment, rescue activities, fire resistance etc. Students obtain integrated knowledge of fire safety in compliance with the national and European standards in force. Special focus is placed on the design, exploitation and expert evaluation of residential, public and industrial buildings and facilities as to their fire safety.
Sustainable urban development – this is a joint master program of the university and BGBC Academy – the only organization in Bulgaria licensed to conduct trainings and certify buildings and urban structures under the leading international systems (DGNB). Students obtain the internationally recognized qualification Green Building Professional.
Construction engineering – this master programme aims to provide bachelor and master holders with further qualification and knowledge in three main professional areas: organization and management of investment projects and construction processes; entrepreneurship, economics and finance in construction; price-setting, valuation and offering of construction objects. This is an interdisciplinary programme, which is designed to improve professional qualifications in a wide range of activities in construction.
