At Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”, we believe that modern higher education knows no boundaries. Our mission is to prepare globally minded professionals who are ready for successful careers anywhere in the world. By building strong international partnerships, we provide our students and lecturers with access to leading educational and research practices.
The main pillars underpinning the international activities of VFU include:
VFU holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) for the 2021–2027 period.
VFU is an active participant in a number of global scientific and infrastructure programmes. The University jointly participates in projects under programmes and initiatives such as Horizon Europe (and its predecessor, Horizon 2020), Jean Monnet, and various innovation funds in the fields of digitalization, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and architecture.
The University attracts a large number of international students and PhD students from Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Greece, China, Kazakhstan, countries in the Middle East, and Western Europe. Special opportunities are offered to them, including:
VFU regularly organizes large-scale international events. Examples include the traditional summer and international research internships, which bring together researchers and PhD students from Bulgaria, Poland, Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and other countries.
We create a multicultural and inspiring environment within the University itself.

1. Erasmus+ Programme and Student Mobility
VFU holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) for the 2021–2027 period.
- For students: Opportunities are available to study for one or two semesters, as well as to undertake summer internships in a number of European countries.
- For academic and administrative staff: The programme supports the exchange of experience, teaching at foreign universities, and participation in international professional development courses.
- The University has signed Erasmus+ cooperation agreements with dozens of academic institutions across Europe.
2. International Projects and Research Networks
VFU is an active participant in a number of global scientific and infrastructure programmes. 3. Education of International Students
The University attracts a large number of international students and PhD students from Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Greece, China, Kazakhstan, countries in the Middle East, and Western Europe. Special opportunities are offered to them, including:
- Programmes taught entirely in English, particularly in the fields of international business, economics, architecture, and computer science.
- A specialized foreign-language education department, providing language preparation and support for integration.
