Justitia, an association for legal development, was established on 9th May, and last week saw its members’ first public appearance. Members of the association are 3rd, 4th and 5th-year law students at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”. “We have established this association so that we become a mediator between employers in the various guilds of the legal community and young specialists. We have the willingness to be active participants in the convergence of legal education and practicing jurists in the different areas of law”, said the young people.
We have already made our first contacts with Bulgarian and international organisations, in order to assist law students in finding work placements.
“Law students face difficulties in finding work placements, which, in the first place, is due to insufficient information as to the available opportunities”, said Judge Diana Miteva from the Varna District Court. She added that the law students at Varna Free University show initiative and intellectual curiosity. Therefore, the Justitia association is going to work for those who strive towards becoming good jurists.
“We are going to organize a summer school which will be open to all law students across the country. It is scheduled for September”, explained Simona Shangova, a member of the association. Assisting students in finding work placements is far from being the students’ single aim. “We will try to build the image of the young people in Varna”, says Mihaela Pencheva, Chair of the association.
The young people shared their ambitions to establish partnering networks on national and international levels, and to work for the prevention of women and child abuse.
