As part of a series of meetings between students of Varna Free University and practicing experts, a public lecture was given, entitled “Topical Issues of Comparative Criminal Law”. Before an audience of law students, one of the renowned specialists in the field of criminal law and international legal assistance in criminal cases, Prof. Anton Gerginov, PhD outlined the differences existing in the legal norms and the criminal process, and the benefits of studying comparative law.
During his lecture, Prof. Girginov emphasized the importance of being familiar with the main norms of foreign criminal law and of implementing the good practices of ‘old democracies’. “Thus, the National Assembly will be able to adopt all those criminal law norms which work in other countries with continental legal systems”, said Prof. Girginov. In his view, knowing foreign criminal law will assist students in interpreting better the Bulgarian legislation, as well as in providing adequate international legal assistance when needed.
Prof. Girginov shared his satisfaction with meeting the students, and recognized the serious achievement of Varna Free University in the area of law.
