Legal education at Varna Free University with new evidence of competitiveness

At a special press conference, Prof. D Sc Anna Nedyalkova, President of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", Ms Vanuhi  Arakelyan, President of the Court of Appeal in Varna and Chair of the Scientific-and-Expert Council at the Faculty of Law and Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD, Dean of the Faculty presented the success of the capable law students of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" and the model of  the highly successful educational standard of legal education that allows judges to participate directly in the educational process and in the practical training of the future lawyers.

    After a series of successes and won prizes, on 1 June, in a National Competition in Solving Cases in Criminal Law the team of the university took first place and ranked before the team of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The team was led by the captain Ivan Mihailov, fifth-year student, majoring in Law and members: Nalyan Hristova, Veselina Veleva and Elena Kostadinova. This is only a part of the winning series of the representative teams of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" in case solving.

    The President of Varna Free University, Prof. Nedyalkova awarded the members of the team who won first place in the case solving competition with tablets and legal literature. The judges of Varna District Court, Diana Miteva, Neiko Dimitrov and Iveta Toncheva and the Vice President of the Court of Appeal, Milen Slavov were awarded certificates for outstanding dedication and diligence in the work with students in the study group in civil and commercial law at Varna Free University, who presented excellently the university at national and inter-university competitions.

    Prof. D Sc Anna Nedyalkova thanked the winners and showed her pride in how ambitious and successful are the students. Prof. Nedyalkova reminded that last year the future lawyers were extremely successful before judges and lawyers from Varna in an open class in cases in commercial and civil law.

    "This success is crucial for the students who for a second year acquire legal knowledge and practical skills for legal work in the master classes in civil and commercial law in the District Court in Varna. I am grateful to all their mentors in this unprecedented format for legal education."     The President of the Court of Appeal – Varna, Judge Vanuhi Arakelyan also expressed her gratitude to the students of the Faculty of Law and expressed her joy of the great victory.

    "I am happy that I can congratulate in person these wonderful children and thank them sincerely. I see that there are results of our partnership and we can be proud of their success. The students from Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" are definitely interested in the practical work, not only in the academic part of education. These are some wonderful children and I would like to take the opportunity to say to all the guests, students and journalists present here that with such young, ambitious people Varna can be really proud of".

    The Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD talked about the beginning of this successful partnership and the competitive advantages of the legal education at Varna Free University. He pointed out that the efforts of the university and the faculty are to connect legal education and practice in the system of justice and to create quality standards of education. The Scientific-and-Expert Council consisting of judges, lawyers and prosecutors, chaired by Vanuhi Arakelyan, states an opinion about the curricula at the university. "Almost all our students after graduating follow the career. It is the only place in Bulgaria where maritime law and digital forensics are studied," said the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Peter Hristov, PhD.

    The students Elena Marinova and Denis Turhanov - fifth-year students, majoring in Law, expressed their gratitude to the university management and to the representatives of the legal system.     The press conference was an occasion to share the high achievements of the students and the successful partnerships of the university in the year dedicated to entrepreneurship and successful academic practices.
