Within a 5-day period, between 16th and 20th June, students and guests of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” will be analyzing the most topical and dynamic area of global and regional confrontation – Russia and the post-Soviet area. The Mater class Russia in Global Politics has been organized by Varna Free University, in a partnership with the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). The lecturer is Prof. Andrey Zagorski, PhD from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations at RAS.
Prof. Andrey Zagorski is Head of the Disarmament and Conflict Settlement Department at the Centre for International Security of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, and a professor at the Department of History of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Russia at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
His academic interests encompass topics such as applied foreign policy analysis, European security, international relations in the post-Soviet area, arms control, theory and practice of international negotiations and conflict settlement.
The participants in the master class will learn about the main characteristics and mechanisms which form the political configurations in the post-Cold War era. They will analyze the military, political and economic processes in Russia and around the world, and will talk about the specifics of the Eurasian region and the alternatives for its development in the context of global and regional challenges.
Prof. Zagorski is going to touch upon several main topics. On the first day the Russian professor will talk about the new world order through the prism of the Russian foreign doctrine, and will discuss the evolution of Russian politics in its relations with the Euro Atlantic community. The agenda for the second day includes topics related to Russia’s policy towards the European Union, NATO and the USA.
Other topics include Russia within the system of European security, Eurasian Union, Russia and China and the Lonely Stanger: ambition and reality in Russia’s politics.
On Friday, during the summer scientific session of the Faculty of Law of Varna Free University, Prof. Andrey Zagorski will give a plenary talk entitled “Ratio of the Principles of Territorial Integrity and National Self-determination within the Context of European Security”.
