Fifty MA students on the Leadership in a Global Environment and Financial and Bank Management master programmes are doing their internship at the Governor’s office and the town hall of Bozdzhaada Island in Turkey.
Forty MA students on the Leadership in a Global Environment programme, with academic supervisor Assoc. Prof. Miglena Temelkova, PhD, and 10 MA students on the Financial and Bank Management programme, with academic supervisor Assoc. Prof. Virzhinia Ivanova, PhD are doing a one-week internship at the Governor’s office and the town hall of Bozdzhaada Island in Turkey. The trainees have to do research into the leadership styles of behavior in the public and in the business sectors in Turkey, and the main leadership advantages which have turned Turkey into an economic leader on the Balkan peninsula.
The students from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” were welcomed by the Governor of Bozdzhaada region, Mr. Abdulgani Mag, who greeted them with the island’s slogan, reading that God created Bozdzhaada so that people may enjoy longevity. He outlined the main trends in Turkish politics aiming at the development of the island. In a meeting with the mayor of Bozdzhaada, the students defined the key problems facing the local authorities, and were allocated the task to synthesize the profile of the island’s target tourist in the global tourist market.
During their internship, the students will interview over 600 managers and staff and over 1000 tourists. Based on the empirical material acquired on field, the MA students will define a strategic framework of leadership in the public and in the business sectors of Turkey, as well as the key advantages of Bozdzhaada as a tourist destination in the global tourist market.
The internship was successfully completed with a defence before a jury, which included the Governor of Bozdzhaada region Abdulgani Mag, the island’s mayor, Assoc. Prof. Vildan Onur, mayor’s advisor on issues related to the absorption of European funds, Assoc. Prof. Miglena Temelkova, PhD and Assoc. Prof. Virzhinia Ivanova, PhD from Varna Free University.
