The lecturer Erich Gassner, Director General of the system operator for electronic payments mPAY24 Ltd. and CEO of "Sensico IT and Management Consulting" Ltd. presented the European and global experience in the field of information security in the master class "Security Management in E-Payment & E-Commerce"
The event, organized by the Department of Informatics, outlined the good practices in the training in the field of IT security applied by leading European companies. The master class has also become a first step towards the launch of the Master`s program "Cybersecurity" at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar".
The topic - security management in electronic payments and e-commerce is provoked by the dynamic environment in which the business operates. A global analysis carried out by the auditing company Ernst & Young in 2013 reveals an increase in problems with information security in organizations last year. More than a third of the entrepreneurs who were inquired recognize a growth of at least 5% of security problems in their organizations. Because of increasing threats, 70% of managers have begun to control information security personally. This takes precious time and quality resource that would bring much more added value if invested in the main activities of the company. Over half of the managers involved in the analysis, plan to increase the budget for information security by 5 percent or more in the next 12 months.
The cyber attacks which have become more frequent, including the recently found out Heartbleed Bug (http://heartbleed.com/), increased the demand for specialists in the field of network security, which becomes clear from the report on the labor market in the field of IT security of the recruitment agency Barclay Simpson. The report also says that the IT sector is experiencing pre-recession in the demand and supply of staff. While in 2010 most sought-after specialists were those in commercial banking, today many companies in the telecommunications, utility and insurance sectors hire IT specialists in information security.
As a result of the new PCI requirements the business seeks professionals in PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), to avoid the use of advisory services. Blurring the boundaries between information security and risk management in the banking sector, it is necessary to appoint employees who can create a bridge between the two areas.
