The master class in contemporary cinema is a manifestation of the successful partnerships in the implementation of the Master’s degree program in Computer Games and Animation

24 July 2014

In early July, Varna Free University held another master class in Modern Cinema and the Use of Motion Graphics, Animation and 3D Technologies. "It was attended by our potential students", said the Head of the Department of Informatics at the University, Assoc. Prof. Galina Momcheva, PhD. The event was inspired by their interest and is a result of the partnership of the University with the producer, director and animator Smilen Savov.

"The way we intend to develop our contacts with Smilen Savov is related to students training, which begins in October in the Master's degree program in Computer Games and Animation, explained Assoc. Prof. Momcheva, PhD. "As a result of the intense program of events held throughout the month of June, we have many new partner companies which develop computer games. Within the Master’s degree program, Smilen Savov will also be one of our partners, not only with his professional expertise related to cinema, but also with its application in training in  an innovative way."

The technology for the development of computer games was a leading topic at the Unity workshop - a three-day workshop for creating computer games attended by developers and gamers from across the country. Lecturer was Andy Touch from Unity 3D Company – one of the recognizable brands in the field of technology for computer games. The Game Hackathon contest organized in cooperation with Zariba Company located in Varna was carried out during the workshop. Within the 24-hour marathon, programmers and designers created computer games, which included Bulgarian historical characters.

The representatives of Unity 3D and Zariba Company confirmed their desire to be among the main partners in the Master’s degree program in Computer Games and Animation.     As a result of these events, many representatives of the companies in the sector in Bulgaria expressed their desire to work in partnership with Varna Free University. The collaboration between the companies and the Department of Informatics in the training under the program in Computer Games and Animation will be enriched by their recommendations.

Varna Free University has received a proposal for joint Master's degree program in computer games from several foreign universities.     Most modules in the program include a practical part, which creates good conditions for experimentation and work in a real environment.

The Master's degree program is a solid foundation for success in the software business, the computer games development companies (video, mobile) and the organizations working in the field of serious games.

The applicants for the program must be Bachelor’s or Master’s degree holders, with grade point average of the higher education diploma not less than "good". The participation certificates in the 2014 Unity workshop and the Game Hackathon contest issued by Varna Free University are recognized as successfully passed admission exam.

For applicants with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Informatics, the duration of the Master's degree program is two semesters.
