HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, PROFESSOR NIKIFOROV!
All of us at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” are proud and honoured to have with us, for the 11-year history of the major Architecture, our teacher, outstanding professional and one of the most renowned lecturers in modern Bulgarian urban planning, Prof. Ivan Nikiforov.
His career includes working on competition projects and products for almost all towns in Bulgaria – general and detailed urban plans, square and pedestrian spaces, central town zones, and many works abroad. All his works have turned into examples of unity and integrity of each town’s elements, of synthesis of the arts, and of scaled by man spaces. One of the undisputed landmarks in Prof. Nikiforov’s career is his work on the first master plans after 1989 of the two biggest cities in Bulgaria – Sofia and Varna.
Prof. Nikiforov is the author of numerous books and textbooks in history and theory of urban planning, as well as of a number of publications on key problems of modern urban planning. In all these publications he has systematized the results of his long work. In the many years of his teaching career, he has been consistently providing support for students, graduates and PhD students in their professional development.
Thank you, Prof. Nikiforov for your responsiveness and for the many hours you have spent helping the artistic development of students and colleagues. We wish you long years of health and energy to continue your artistic, academic and design work.
