For a sixth consecutive year Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” hosts an international qualification school “Modern Pedagogical Technologies in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language”. This year’s school is dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Centre of the university.
An exhibition dedicated to this anniversary will mark the official start of the event. The exhibition “The Russian Centre of Varna Free University – 5 years in the World of Russian World” will be opened on 18th August (Monday), at 16:00 o’clock, at the university’s Russian Centre.
In the period between 18th and 23rd August, students in Russian language and culture from 13 universities will study at Varna Free University. The project is unique with its orientation towards students – future teachers of Russian as a foreign language, and with putting into practice the idea of Russian centres from a number of European and Asian countries working together to provide professional qualification opportunities. 60 participants from 10 countries will take part in the school. This year, for the first time, Varna Free University School welcomes participants not only from Europe, but also from Asia.
The main theme of the school is using modern pedagogical technologies in teaching Russian as a foreign language. The programme includes introduction into innovative techniques, using internet for teaching and learning purposes, linguistic and didactic aspects of teaching, incorporating drama in the learning process, specific methods for teaching business Russian, the specifics of teaching in the primary stage of education, the difficult aspects of Russian grammar, using tales in Russian classes.
Traditional for the school is the meeting of generations of students and lecturers. The new element in the programme is the unconventional form of the master classes, led by renowned Bulgarian teachers of Russian, with extensive experience in teaching Russian in the different stages of education – from kindergarten through secondary school. The “carousel” model will take the participants to three fairy kingdoms, while the experienced teachers will share their knowledge, will talk about the importance of capturing students’ attention, will demonstrate how teaching a language can be fun, done creatively and captivatingly.
The rich programme of the school includes round tables, lectures, master classes and seminars with lecturers from the Russian Language and Culture Institute of the Saint Petersburg State University, the Russian Herzen State Pedagogical University, Staint Petersburg and outstanding Bulgarian specialists.
“We will continue to surprise the participants with new forms and ideas. This year again, we will hold the Starry Night of Russian Language Specialists. The stage at the university’s eastern park will be the venue for the creative evening master classes, dedicated to drama techniques and the language of Russian songs. Specially for the school, the students from the children drama group “The Blue Bird” at “Geo Milev” secondary school, Varna will present their new play “You need to get smarter gradually”, said Prof. Shamonina, PhD – project leader and Head of the Russian Centre of Varna Free University.
The event is held with the support of Russkiy Mir Foundation. The international qualification school of Varna Free University is one of the most significant events in the field of Russian language teaching on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, aimed at improving the methodological preparation of young people on the threshold of their career. The presence of the CEO of Russkiy Mir Foundation Vladimir Vyacheslavovich Kochin speaks clearly of it.
