The office of technology transfer of energy efficient materials and technologies was opened on September 5, 2014 at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". The office was established under the project BG161PO003-1.2.02-0039-C0001, funded with the support of the operational program "Development of the Competitiveness of the Bulgarian Economy" 2007-2013, co- financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund with the full support of the university management.
The office of technology transfer (OTT) was officially opened by the President of Varna Free University, Prof. Dr. S. Anna Nedyalkova - project manager. Speaking at the opening of the office, Prof. Nedyalkova said:
"Today we cut the ribbon for a wide road towards transformation of the university into an important place for support and development of knowledge economy. Thanks to the project, we have impressive technologically advanced equipment that allows us to be better than others, both as builders and as architects, and working in the field of security and economy, precisely because we will rely on the new technologies and their potential to increase the efficiency of each sector.I think that the most valuable thing of this office is that it works on a very hot topic in the development of society, namely energy efficiency. Iwould say that the issue of energy efficiency may become core activity which to be the foundation on which all our customers together with our colleagues - scientists, researchers and students will create one cluster of intelligent specialization of the Varna region, in which we will show that right here creating technology and management of energy efficiency we are better than everyone else. ".
The activities of the office are aimed at representatives of business. Therefore, they were the major participants in the event. Among the companies potential users of the technology products are Devnya Cement AD, Saint Gobain Construction Products Bulgaria EOOD, Rehau EOOD, Gas Flow Control AD, Xella Bulgaria EOOD, KIIP - RK Varna, the Bulgarian Association for Construction Insulation Materials, the Territorial Organization of Scientific Unions in Bulgaria and others. The high-tech laboratories and future projects of the office of technology transfer were presented in the presence of the university management, representatives of the administration and faculty, students majoring in Construction of Buildings and Facilities and Fire Safety and Protection of Population and representatives of Varna universities with which VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" works in partnership
The new office of technology transfer at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" has a seminar hall and three specialized laboratories outfitted with modern high-tech equipment.
The laboratory of structural analysis of materials is fully equipped to prepare and study the structure of dense and porous metallic and non-metallic materials.
Thethermophysicalresearch laboratoryis the main focus of the office. It has the unique for Varna and the region apparatus for measuring thecoefficient of thermal conductivity through which non-destructive testing of a wide range of materials and systems can be made. The thermal conductivity analyzer is the latest generation device of the patented technology of C-Therm, which allows for rapid and accurate measurement within a wide range (0 to 220W / mK) in the temperature range from -50 to 200 ° C. The device is designed to test solids, liquids, powders and paste-like materials. The Technology C-Therm is a prize winner of the prestigious Manning Innovation Principle Award and the R & D 100 Award. The apparatus is used by leading companies and research institutes.
The laboratory is equipped with an infrared camera, moisture and noise analyzer.
The mechanical testing laboratoryis equipped to perform destructive mechanical testing of compression, bending and cleavage at maximum load of 2000 kN and non-destructive testing of compressive strength of concrete. The activity of the new office of technology transfer is focused in several areas: scientific and applied research that will be performed in the laboratories of the office and will be aimed at enterprises and companies; expert activities and consulting services that will be performed due to the high-tech equipment and with the involvement of the attracted highly qualified specialists and training sessions and seminarsaimed at thestudents and research staff of the university, specialists in the field of design, construction and energy audit, production and use of energy efficient materials and systems in buildings and facilities.
The office of technology transfer will actively participate in the learning process primarily in the specialties of the professional area of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy at the Faculty of Architecture. This is yet another step in the rich experience of the university in the practical training of students, and a good opportunity for developing science and research.
The modern high-tech research base has already attracted its first foreign trainees. In October, the office of technology transfer and the Department of Construction of Buildings and Facilities will accept for a one-year research internship the student fromVladimir State Universitynamed afterAlexander and NikolayStoletovs- Maxim Korabov. He will arrive in Varna as a scholarship holder of the President of the Russian Federation.
