Students of the Master's program "Preservation of Cultural Heritage" headed by Prof. Rositsa Nikiforova, PhD, Arch. carried out a summer scientific-and-educational expedition at the beginning of September. Subject of their study is the Black Sea archaeological park Durankulak. The expedition was conducted jointly with lecturers and students from the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano), Italy - partner of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" under the European academic mobility program Erasmus.
Among the Italian guests were the architects Nora Lombardini and Domenico Chizzoniti- experts in the field of cultural heritage protection. The Bulgarian group was headed by Assoc. Prof. Krasimira Vacheva, PhD, Arch., lecturer and practitioner with extensive experience in the field of the conservation of immovable cultural heritage and Asst. Prof. Zhechka Ilieva, Arch. The expedition was implemented with the kind support of the mayor of the municipality of Shabla – Prof. Raina Bardareva, Kostadin Kostadinov – Director of the Regional History Museum in Dobrich, and the archaeologist Todor Dimov.
The task of the two joint multinational teams of students was to develop conceptual designs for the socialization of the archaeological excavations revealed on the Big Island in Lake Durankulak. Both projects will be displayed at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" immediately after their officialdefence in mid-November. They will be presented to the audience both in "Green Education Centre" - Shabla and at the Regional Museum of History - Dobrich.
The collaboration of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" with Milan Polytechnic University within the framework of the Master's program "Preservation of Cultural Heritage" is a continuation of the joint activities of the two universities under the project SEHUD, funded by the European Executive Agency for Education, Audiovision and Culture.
