The Head of the Department of Architecture, Cor. Mem. Prof. Dr. Sc.Atanas Kovachev, Arch has been awarded in the last two months the titles "Honorary Citizen of Karnobat" and "Honorary Member" of the Association of Landscape Architects in Bulgaria.
On the feast day of St Sofia, which is the Bulgarian capital’s official holiday, Cor. Mem. Prof. Dr. Sc.Atanas Kovachev, Arch was honoured at an official ceremony by Ms Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia’s Municipality and Mr Elen Gerdzhikov, Chairman of the Municipal Council with the "Honorary Sign of Sofia Municipality" for his overall creative contribution to the development of Sofia and in connection with his 60thbirthday anniversary.
More than a decade (1998-2009), Prof. Kovachev worked on the master plan of Sofia and led the team which has developed the green system, recreation and sport in all phases of planning, design, discussion, adoption and implementation of the plan. Prof. Atanas Kovachev is an author of two works related to the urban aspects of the green system of thecapital city, in which he analyzes all master plans of Sofia from Liberation until present days.
On 26 September, the holiday of Karnobat, Cor. Mem. Atanas Kovachev received yet another award. He was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of Karnobat" for his long research, teaching and expert activities as well as his contribution to our architectural science and practice in the European and global urban development.
I believe that each of my fellow-citizens carries deep in their heart the image and memory of Karnobat. One can choose many things in this world - friends, work, colleagues, but cannot choose their hometown. No matter where the "great ship" of life has taken them, where they found a haven to work and live in - Karnobat will always be in my heart, said during the official session of the Municipal Council of the town of Karnobat Cor. At the beginning of October at the official forum of the Association of Landscape Architects in Bulgaria held in Ruse, Prof. Yordan Kuleliev - President of the Association of Landscape Architects honoured Cor. Mem. Atanas Kovachev with the title "Honorary member of the Association of Landscape Architects in Bulgaria" for his contribution to the development of the specialtyLandscape Architecture in Bulgaria.
I am happy that many of my students today are excellent designers, presidents of prosperous companies, assistant professors and associate professors, doctors, people who create amazing beauty in the world around us and teach the new generation of Landscape Architects, said Prof. Kovachev.
