Varna Free University hosted the Second national case studies competition in civil and commercial law, which took place on 15th November 2014. Participants in the competition were teams from the Law faculties of five universities: Sofia University “St. Climent Ohridski”, the University of National and World Economy, Veliko Tarnovo University, Burgas Free University and Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”.
The competitors’ performance was assessed by a jury comprising Prof. Ivan Ruschev, PhD – Chairman, judge Aneta Bratanova from the Court of Appeal Varna, judge Penka Hristova from the Court of Appeal Varna and judge Maria Hristova from the District Court Varna. Honorary guests were the Chair of the Court of Appeal in Varna judge Vanuhi Arakelyan, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of VFU Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD and the Vice President of the university Mr. Yani Yanev.
The cases the competitors had to solve were designed by the District Court judges Diana Miteva and Neyko Dimitrov. The competitors received awards provided by Varna Free University and the publishing houses Sibi and Siela.
Awards were distributed across seven categories:
“The best overall performance” award was for the Sofia university team, with team captain Tsvetelina Bairaktarova. The Alma Mater team also received the Best Plaintiff award.
“The most efficient defence” award was given to the University of National and World Economy team, with team captain Dimitar Yanev. The award of the Chair of the jury went to Plamena Nankova from Varna Free University, and her team, with captain Simona Shangova, won the Audience award.
The Best Defendant award went to the Sofia university team with captain Nevena Yaneva. The Most Active Performer award was given to Petar Petrov, from the Veliko Tarnovo university team.
The competition was organized by the Association for Legal Development Justitia and the Student Council of Varna Free University.
