VFU and the National Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium "Nicolaus Copernicus" celebrated together the Day of Astronautics

    Students and lecturers of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" took part in the events dedicated to the Day of Astronautics. They were organized on the initiative of the Russian Centre of Varna Free University and the National Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium "Nicolaus Copernicus".

    Over 70 secondary school students, VFU students and the technical assistant of the Russian Centre took part in the events organized by the university and NAOP "NicolausCopernicus" on 9 April.Students from Varna schools were the participants in the special competitions.  

    The day began with a lecture entitled "From Tsiolkovsky to the stars", which introduced the participants to the most important dates and figures related to space. A special demonstration in the astral hall of the planetarium, dedicated to astronauticswas made during the lecture. Once acquainted with the history of the first flight into space and the famous names in astronautics, the participants had the opportunity to apply the obtained new knowledge in the quiz prepared by the Russian Centre of VFU entitled "First in space". All of them performed very well. The jury awarded those who gave the most correct answers: Mihail Tomov, Damian Dimov and Irina Tomova.  

    The youngest participants took part in the competition "Cosmic Egg" and painted Easter eggs in three thematic areas: cosmic egg, eggs - spacecrafts and eggs - extraterrestrials. First places took Dimitar Boyadzhiev from "P. Slaveykov"primary school, Dilyana Kovacheva from "A. Kanchev" primary school and Yulia Moraliiska from "St. Kliment Ohridski" secondary school. The Director of the National Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium, Svezhina Dimitrova, PhD thanked the VFU students and invited them to participate in future joint projects.

    The Day of Astronautics was celebrated also at the Russian Centre. First year students and students from the Russian language courses watched the film «Our Gagarin».

The secondary school students who attend courses at the National Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium were introduced to the Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree programs of Varna Free University, the schedules for admission and the advantages of the studies at the university.
