First place for the law students of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" in the National Competition for Solving Case Studies in Civil and Commercial Law
Legal studies at VFU with new evidence of competitiveness. The following students majoring in law at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" took first place in the National Competition for Solving Case Studies in Civil and Commercial Law - Simona Shangova (5th year), Adelina Nankova (4th year) and Kristina Filipova (4th year).The competition was organized by the Study circle in civil and commercial law at the Faculty of Law of Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski" and the Student Association in Civil and Commercial Law.
In 2014, the team of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" with captain Ivan Ivanov ranked second in the same competition.
The final round of this year's competition was held on 25 April 2015 in the Palace of Justice in Sofia.
18 teams from six universities in the country took part in the competition: Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski", Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski", the University of National and World Economy, "St Cyril and St Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo, New Bulgarian University, Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar ". For the second consecutive year the national competition for solving case studies in civil and commercial law was held in memory of the lecturer from Sofia University "St KlimentOhridski" - TeodorPiperkov.
In the preliminary round, the team of the Faculty of Law of Varna Free University with captain Simona Shangova took fourth place among the eight teams which ranked for the second round. The final round took place in three parts. The student teams were judged by a jury consisting of: Borislav Belazelkov - Judge from the SupremeCourt of Cassation, Svetla Tsacheva - Judge from the SupremeCourt of Cassation, Assoc. Prof. Kristian Takov, PhD - lecturer at Sofia University, Assoc. Prof. Pavel Sarafov, PhD - lecturer at Sofia University, Assoc. Prof. Tanya Yosifova - lecturer at the University of National and World Economy and judges Vladimir Valkov, Desislava Popkoleva, Tatiana Kostadinova and Lyubka Kolakova. In the first part, the team of Varna Free University beat the team of the University of National and World Economy with captain Svetoslav Pandilov. In the second part, the team beat the team of "St Kliment Ohridski "with captain Tsvetelina Bayraktarova. In the final third part, the students from Varna beat also the team from Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski" with captain Simona Kirilova. The final phase of the competition was attended by over 100 people - judges, organizers, participants and guests.
In the nine-year history of the prestigious competition, the first place has always been awarded to a team of Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski". For the first time, the first place was taken by the team of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". "Our students performed brilliantly. Even practicing lawyers are not always so confident in the courtroom," said about the performance of the students Asst. Prof. Maria P. Petrova, lecturer at the Faculty of Law. The brilliant preparation for the competition is due to the lecturers from the university and to Diana Miteva and Neyko Dimitrov, judges from Varna Regional Court.
The students received a letter of gratitude on behalf of the President of Varna Free University, Prof. Anna Nedyalkova, D.Sc. and the Rector, Prof. Galya Gercheva, D.Sc. They accepted congratulations from the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD. "Such achievements give meaning to our work", said in the meeting with the students from the team the President of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", Prof. Nedyalkova.
