Professors and expert collaborate in training students at Varna Free University
A round table discussion took place at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” topublicize the results of project BG051PO001-3.1.07-0029 „Updating Academic Documentation and the Learning Process at VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar” in Compliance with the Labour Market”
The participants in the discussion presented a general analysis which comes as the outcome of a number of meetings and seminars with representatives of different areas of business. The research provides a forecast for the need of specialists in different sectors of the economy for the period up to 2025.
Due to the joint effort of the academic community and the business, 166 curricula have been updated for the Bachelor and Master programmes, and 54 new ones have been designed. Among the good practices, which have come as a result of the project, is the involvement of business experts in the study process.
The Rector of Varna Free University Prof. DSc Galya Gercheva said that one of the most important result of this collaboration is the transfer of knowledge from the business sector to the university and vice versa.
In the course of joint work, various concepts have been developed which concern not only academic education, but also the work with school students from the first to the 12th grade, especially in the field of information technologies and innovation. A curriculum for programming through games is currently being developed, which is meant for primary and secondary school teachers.
Other project results include involving practitioners as lecturers in academic courses and having lessons conducted in a real working environment.
The participants in the forum were unanimous about the benefits of such collaboration for young people, and acknowledged the need to continue this practice.
