Varna Spaghetti Tоwer provokes students’ aspirations for creativity

The second edition of the national competition for creative skills Varna Spaghetti Tоwer, initiated by the Department of Construction of Buildings and Facilities at the Faculty of Architecture of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”, gathered together students from ten vocational schools of architecture, construction and geodesy from Varna, Shumen, Burgas, Plovdiv, Kurdzhali, Pernik and students majoring in Architecture and in Construction of Buildings and Facilities at Varna Free University.

 

 

Provoking knowledge, creativity, striving towards something different, towards new skills and away from what is conventionally taught at schools – this was the main objective of the national competition Varna Spaghetti Tower. This year, the event is part of the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the Construction of Buildings and Facilities programme.

 

 

According to the rules, the participants have to build towers which need to meet several criteria – height, stability, economy and attractiveness.

 

 

The winner of the first prize was team 3 from the Vocational School of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy “Kolyu Ficheto”, Burgas. The team built the highest tower, 149 cm. tall, and grabbed the VFU prize.

 

 

The runner-up was team 2 from the Vocational School of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy, Shumen.

 

 

Third ranked team 2 from the Vocational School of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy “Arch. Kamen Petkov”, Plovdiv.

The jury also gave several special prizes, provided by the regional representation of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber and the Chamber of Engineers in the Investment Design, Varna. The prize of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber for the most stable tower was awarded to team 2 from the Vocational School of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy “Kolyu Ficheto”, Burgas. The prizes of the Chamber of Engineers in the Investment Design went to the teams of the vocational schools of architecture, construction and geodesy in Burgas, Shumen and Varna.

 

 

Varna Spaghetti Tоwer was organised with the support of Planex Ltd., Savimex EOOD, the Bulgarian Construction Chamber, Varna and the Chamber of Engineers in the Investment Design. Media partners of the event were Cherno More TV and The Stroitel newspaper.

The programme accompanying the competition included a series of lectures on construction, material resistance and sustainable construction in the digital medium.

Among the priorities of the Department of Construction of Buildings and Facilities fall joint projects with students from the vocational schools of architecture, construction and geodesy because they are the future students in Architecture, Construction of Buildings and Facilities and Fire Safety and Population Protection
