Start to the 6th summer scientific session of the Faculty of Law at Varna Free University

26 June 2015

The 6th summer scientific session of the Faculty of Law at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” started its work. 132 papers in the three main scientific areas – law, security and psychology – will be presented at the forum. The participants in the session are representatives of universities and academic organisations from Bulgaria, Russia, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Iraq and Ukraine. Among the Bulgarian partners of the forum are the Ministry of Interior Academy, Velico Tarnovo University “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”, New Bulgarian University, the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies and others.

“This session has turned into a constantly developing forum, which enriches its scope every year”, said the President of Varna Free University Prof. DSc Anna Nedyalkova in her address to the participants in the forum. “Bringing together the three areas of knowledge – law, security and psychology – in a single scientific session is an important achievement. If for us the reality is worrying because of the problems the judicial reform is facing, because of the synchronization of the Bulgarian legislation with the European one, the problems of crime and security and the psychological instruments to meet these challenges, from a scientific point of view, this environment is beneficial to finding working solutions and holding an interdisciplinary discussion which will offer academic and practical benefits”, added Prof. Nedyalkova.

The sixth scientific session continued its work with a paper by Prof. DSc Yonko Kunchev, a professor of Forensic Science at Varna Free University on “The Transition from the Paper to the Digital Age and its Impact on the Judicial System”. In his paper Prof. Kunchev outlined the main aspects of the advent of technology in modern life, the European experience in implementing the concept of digital justice, the changing of crime patterns in the digital environment and the technical revolution in the process of evidence collection. He also presented the potential of the 3D laser scanner for crime scene processing, which is the only one in Bulgaria.

In the introductory part of the session the Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD presented a paper on “Intelligent Natural Disaster Protection Systems” where he emphasized the role of modern technologies in the prevention of the impact of disasters and ecological catastrophes.

As a representative of the academic area of psychology, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Velico Tarnovo University “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” Prof. Daniela Tasevska, PhD presented the applied and psychological dimensions of the competency-based approach in the modern educational environment.

The forum continued with plenary discussions held within the three main academic area conferences - “Topical Issues of Bulgarian Legislation in the Context of the Law of the European Union”, „Technologies and Security“ and „Applied Psychology – Opportunities and Prospects“.
