The Seventh International Summer Qualification School for modern pedagogical technologies in teaching Russian as a foreign language was launched with an official ceremony at Varna Free University

"The Municipality of Varna is proud of having an educational institution such as Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" in its territory - with these words the director of the Department of Education and Youth Activities, Ms Lilia Hristova addressed the participants and hosts of the Seventh International Summer Qualification School for modern pedagogical technologies in teaching Russian as a foreign language.

    The forum which involves representatives of 11 universities from Russia, Serbia, Belarus, Romania, Latvia, Kyrgyzstan, Poland and Bulgaria opened on 17 August at the Russian Centre of Varna Free University.

    The ceremony was attended by Ms Tatyana Suhova - Advisor to the President of the “RusskiyMirfoundation, Vyacheslav Nikonov; His Excellency, the General Consul of the Russian Federation in Varna, Sergey Lukyanchuk; Ms Nadya Kantareva-Baruh - Director of AzBuki National Publishing Company for Education and Science affiliated to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria; Ms Ventsislava Genova - Head of the Regional Education Inspectorate in Varna; Ms Lilia Hristova - director of the Department of  Education and Youth Activities, Municipality of Varna; Stoyanka Pochekanska, PhD - Chief Expert in Russian at the Ministry of Education; Mr Sergey Smityushenko – in  his capacity as  Director of the Russian Cultural and Information Centre - Sofia; Ms Stanka Shopova - director of Kamchia Sanatorium and Health Resort.

    The Rector of Varna Free University, Prof. Galya Gercheva, D.Sc. welcomed the participants in the school and expressed confidence that this edition will be held successfully due to the good organization, the interesting lecturers and the students, who have chosen a career in teaching Russian as their profession. She pointed out that on the eve of its 25th anniversary, Varna Free University is proud to be the only Bulgarian university which has been awarded three labels proving its high quality of education and research – ECTS Label, DS Label and HR Logo.     The success of the school is due to several main components, said in his opening speech Prof. Leonid Moskovkin, D.Sc. - lecturer at St. Petersburg State University, the professionalism of the organizers, the commitment of the university management and the support ofthe local and state authorities.

    The forum continued with a round table discussion on the topic of:  Methodological idea: Phrasal journey entitled "At the Seas and Waves ... " at which the representatives of all universities presented their ideas for the methodical use of phraseologisms in foreign language education. The introductory lecture of Prof. Moskovkin was on "The Main Directions of Modern Methods in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language."     The highlight of the program tomorrow is the lecture of Prof. Valerii Efremov, D.Sc. "Russian Substandard: fromVernacular to Slang."
