The third edition of the QUERYADA 2017 National Competition for Data Mining finished
The third edition of the QUERYADA 2017 National Data Mining Competition finished. The 5 best teams survived in the final ranking. The competition included a total of 40 participants divided into 14 teams.
The QUERYADA National Competition has enabled university and school students from across the country to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the field of data mining. Initiator, organizer and host of the competition is Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", which was supported by ICT Cluster Varna this year. The event was part of the project "Open Data for Smart Cities", financed by Varna - European Youth Capital.
In the first and second round, the participants solved problems and mined data from relational databases.
In the third and fourth final rounds, the students worked on tasks related to the use of open data from the European Data Portal europeandataportal.eu and analyzed the impressions of students and tourists who have visited Varna and were shared on specialized tourist sites (TripAdvisor.com, booking.com, etc.), Facebook, Tweeter and other social networks as well as articles dedicated to the sights of Varna. Various means of semantic analysis were used to analyze natural languages to determine the attitude and emotional attitude of the author to the subject under discussion. Recommendations were formulated to improve the impression that the city leaves in its visitors.
The Head of the Department of Informatics and Economics, Assoc. Prof. Galya Momcheva, PhD invited all university students who participated in the competition to enroll in the master's degree program in Data Science and all school students to join the certification program for validation of knowledge and skills in the field of computer science.
The organizers express their special gratitude to the jury consisting of: Veselina Spasova, PhD (VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar") - chairperson, Prof. Kalinka Kaloyanova, PhD (Sofia University), Boris Banev ("Adastra" – Bulgaria), Venelin Spasov (VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar") and the technical support team for the online platform: Evgeni Andreev and Nikolay Tsankov.
