Students from Varna Free University with prizes from the First National Mediation Competition

21 November 2017

The first national meditation contest for students was held in Varna on 16 and 17 November 2017. It involved 20 teams from 8 specialties in 9 universities across the country.

The event became the climax in the Days of Mediation in Varna, organized on the occasion of the 2-year anniversary of the opening of the Center for Mediation in the Judicial Region, organized by the Dispute Resolution Center - Sofia, the Mediation and Out-of-Court Dispute Resolution Institute Itera, and representatives of the courts in the city.

The first year student in International Relations at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" Valentin Markov won second place in the category "Mediator". The first place in the category was for Teodora Peicheva from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the third place won Diana Kancheva from New Bulgarian University. "The most important quality that a mediator should have is to be able to maintain neutrality," said Valentin Markov in front of the team of the Black Sea media group. Although he is only first year student, he entered the competition because he has an interest in law and the judiciary as a whole. Valentine does not hide the fact that he would try to work as a mediator in practice, if he is doing well. "I am interested in how the two parties defend their positions, but they are still ready to make concessions to get the best solution," commented he.

Valentin also won a special prize for his innovative methods, which confirmed the excellent performance of Varna Free University team.

Not only the students, but also their mentors received certificates. Mentor of the team of VFU Chernorizets Hrabar is Assoc. Prof. Ivanka Bankova.
