A course for Managers of Authentic Folklore Ensembles brought together participants from all over the country at Varna Free University

This week, a specialized course for Managers of Authentic Folklore Ensembles is being held at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”, organized by the Department of Choreography. The training attracted participants from different parts of the country who love Bulgarian folklore. They come from Stara Zagora, Sofia, Loznitsa, Smolyan, Montana, Radomir, Plovdiv, Sliven, Lom, Sindel, Kazanlak, Vratsa, Botevgrad, Mizia and Varna.

The course participants were introduced to the basic principles and approaches in the processing of festive and ritual folklore, the organization of the rehearsal and concert process, as well as the characteristic features of dance folklore from the various ethnographic regions of Bulgaria. The training was taught by prominent lecturers in the field of choreography – Prof. Dr. Katya Kairyakova, Prof. Dr. Maria Kardzhieva, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Ivanov and Assist. Prof. Dilyan Galev.

"We are excited to be here, as well as to have the opportunity to meet such well-prepared and inspiring teachers," the course participants said. According to Prof. Kardzhieva, the course is not only valuable preparation, but also a motivating experience for all participants. "The interest is strong. We already have applications for the next edition, which will probably take place in November this year. We are glad that we are igniting the love for folklore - people are leaving confident that they are doing something significant, working to preserve our original culture," said the lecturer.

The course is also an opportunity for future academic development, with many of the participants expressing a desire to continue their studies in the bachelor's degree programme in Choreography at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".

This evening, all course participants will be in the audience of the the concert-performance 'The Rhythm of Time', dedicated to 30 years since the creation of the Choreography major. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. in Hall 1 of the Festival and Congress Center - Varna and will present 20 choreographic works inspired by Bulgarian folklore, contemporary dance and the students' original research.

The festive evening will open with the choreography 'Kamchiyski Dances' by Prof. Petar Angelov - the creator of the specialty and a long-time lecturer, who will be solemnly honoured on the occasion of his 80th anniversary and for his exceptional contribution to the establishment of dance education in Bulgaria.
