The Academic Council of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" has adopted a new
"Standard for conducting examination procedures in test form". The document introduces uniform rules and requirements for assessing students' knowledge and skills and is an integral part of the university's quality management system.
The standard aims to guarantee objectivity, equality and academic honesty in conducting all types of test exams, including continuous assessment, semester and state exams.
Main highlights of the new standard:
►
Clear structure of the tests: the number of questions (between 25 and 60), the types of tasks and their balanced distribution in difficulty are regulated in order to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the learning outcomes.
►
Conducting the exams: the exams can be conducted both face-to-face and remotely through the university's electronic systems. To ensure objectivity in face-to-face exams, different test options are provided.
►
Electronic proctoring for online exams: a mandatory automated monitoring and control system for exams with remote access is introduced. This will ensure academic integrity and equality of students, while at the same time providing clear rules and technical requirements for them. Students are also provided with the opportunity to request an alternative form of testing for valid reasons.
►
Transparent and flexible grading scales: the standard introduces three types of grading scales – absolute, relative and hybrid. The choice of scale will be made by the teacher according to the specifics of the discipline and will be announced to the students at the beginning of the semester. The rules for their application are detailed, including conditions for dynamic adaptation of the grading thresholds based on statistical analysis.
►
Quality control and feedback: Procedures for statistical analysis of test results are introduced with the aim of their continuous improvement. Each student has the right to review their graded test and file an objection in case of suspected technical error.
The new standard comes into force from the moment of its approval. For the current curricula, the provided grading scales will be applied after their update.
By adopting this document, Varna Free University reinforces its commitment to modernising the educational process and maintaining high standards in education.
