By Their Dreams You Will Know Them – Boryana Nikolova and Ofelia Kaneva with a Film about Children in Disadvantaged Situations

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ofelia Kaneva, lecturer at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar,” is the producer of the documentary Not Just One Dream, which will premiere on August 27th at Club Gramophone in Sofia. The film, directed by Boryana Nikolova, tells the stories of the dreams and strength of children in disadvantaged situations, breaking the stereotypes and stigma surrounding them.The idea for the film emerged spontaneously during the shooting of a music video for the song of the same name by Slavcho Nikolov of B.T.R. Inspired by her encounters with children from social centers, Boryana Nikolova decided to tell their stories in a documentary. Ofelia Kaneva, a sociologist and public figure with long-standing experience, joined the project as producer, motivated by the desire to present society with the true light of these children – filled with dreams, dignity, and potential for realization.
The film features interviews with children who share their dreams – about professions, family, music, and travel – proving that despite a difficult start, they carry hope and inner strength. Not Just One Dream also includes appearances by popular Bulgarian artists such as SkilleR, Moisey, and the trio Viva, who embraced the cause as a personal mission.
For Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ofelia Kaneva, lecturer at the Faculty of Social, Economic, and Computer Sciences at Varna Free University, this project is a message to society that Bulgaria’s future is in good hands. The documentary presents children as active agents of change who choose to be kind people, to break negative patterns, and to contribute to the common good.
Ofelia Kaneva holds a PhD in Education Management, and is a sociologist and public figure with extensive experience in introducing innovative approaches in the humanitarian sector. She is the founder of the first student parliament in Bulgaria and has long been active in defending children’s rights. She is also a laureate of the Leaders’ Academy Award for her fight against social stagnation and apathy.
The premiere of the documentary Not Just One Dream will take place on Wednesday, August 27th, at 7 PM at Club Gramophone, Sofia.
