Dr. Dariusz Wilon Presents Google Gemini’s Capabilities to the Academic Community

Dr. Dariusz Wilon, Google’s Head of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education for Central and Eastern Europe, visited Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar,” where he conducted two hands-on workshops on using Google Gemini in learning, teaching, and university operations.
During his visit, Dr. Wilon met with Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eleonora Tankova and Konstantin Kosev, Head of the university’s Centre for Digital Technologies, as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Antonina Ivanova, Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Prof. Dr. Teodora Bakardzhieva.
Later, the expert led training sessions for students, faculty, and staff in Hall 2 of the university’s Academic and Sports Complex. He paid particular attention to Google Gemini’s ability to help people develop applications, even without professional programming experience. Dr. Wilon demonstrated how artificial intelligence can make it easier to turn ideas into practical solutions.
The student session explored applications of Google Gemini to support learning, research, and project development. Particular emphasis was placed on the safe, ethical, and effective use of artificial intelligence in everyday academic activities.
The workshop for faculty and staff focused on change management and the concept of “AI-native” universities, which integrate artificial intelligence into their core activities and processes.
Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” was among the first higher education institutions in Bulgaria to introduce Google for Education, implementing the platform as early as 2019. The university uses its capabilities both to support student learning and to digitalize administrative and management processes. Its adopted artificial intelligence policy and accompanying implementation guidelines establish rules for the ethical, transparent, and lawful use of AI technologies in the academic environment.
Dr. Dariusz Wilon has more than 20 years of experience in academia and the technology sector. In his role at Google, he supports university management teams across Central and Eastern Europe in their digital transformation efforts. He trains and advises teams and senior leaders on modern approaches to management, collaboration, and organizational change, and is a speaker at international forums, including TEDx and the Vilnius AI Summit. His professional approach places people at the heart of technological change.
