08 Април 2025

The first-year students of the Department of Law at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” presented projects for their course in Protection of Human Rights, taught by Prof. Dr. Dobrinka Chankova.

The students presented 11 presentations, in which they practiced legal terms, rhetoric and public communication skills. They prepared the presentation for about a month, and the choice of topics and the results impressed the lecturers with the high level of commitment and academic content.

“The works are extremely good,” said Prof. Chankova, a lecturer in the subject and an established specialist in the field of international law and human rights.

Among the topics chosen by the students were: Protection of the Rights of Ethnic and Religious Minorities, The Ombudsman and the Human Rights, Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, Children's Rights and Protection from Violence, The Rights of Protesters in Turkey and Landmark Decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, Palestine and the Violation of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, Health as a Fundamental Human Right.

The event is yet another proof of the active academic life and the aspiration for early development of professional competencies in future lawyers at Varna Free University. The Law programme at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" combines strong theoretical knowledge with practically oriented courses that develop skills in case thinking, argumentation and legal ethics. Students are involved in mock trials, research projects and initiatives related to the protection of human rights, which contribute to their professional development and successful implementation in legal practice.
