"Galaxy Library" is coming to Varna Free University

A screening of the documentary film Galaxy Library – The Books of Free People will take place on April 22nd, 2026, at 1:30 pm in Aula Maxima at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar.” The event is intended for students, faculty, and anyone interested in the history of the Bulgarian science fiction and publishing.

The film, directed by Mira Arnaudova, with screenplay and hosting by Petya Mihaylova, presents the story of the iconic series through meetings with creators and participants involved in its development. It features the legendary artist and author of over 100 book covers, Tekla Aleksieva, translator and journalist Georgi Angelov, graphic designer Dimitar Traychev, editors, translators, and people close to the developer of the series, Milan Asadurkov, as well as readers influenced by “Galaxy Library.”

The narrative traces the development of the series from its first editions in the late 1970s to contemporary anniversary editions, revealing its cultural significance and influence on generations of readers. The film also features Katrin Springer from the Metropolitan Museum in New York, who shares her contribution in providing the first English-language titles for the library.

The cinematographers of the film are Stanislav Evstatiev and Mira Arnaudova, it is narrated by Dr. Svilen Ivanov and the music is by LUMATRICKS.

A week earlier, an exhibition titled “Galaxy Library – The Books of Free People” will also be arranged in the Central Foyer of the university.
