12 October 2026

Dr. Dariusz Wilon, Google’s Head of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education for Central and Eastern Europe, will visit Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026. With more than 20 years of experience in academia and the technology sector, the expert will teach two hands-on workshops on using Google Gemini in learning, teaching, and university operations.

The workshops will take place in Hall 2 of the University’s Academic and Sports Complex. The student workshop will run from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., while the session for faculty and staff will begin at 12:30 p.m. Participation is free for members of the university’s academic community.

During the student session, Dr. Wilon will demonstrate practical applications of Google Gemini to support learning, research, and project development. Particular emphasis will be placed on the safe, ethical, and effective use of artificial intelligence in everyday academic activities.

The workshop for faculty and staff will focus on change management and the concept of “AI-native” universities, which integrate artificial intelligence into their core activities and processes.

Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” was among the first higher education institutions in Bulgaria to implement Google for Education, introducing the platform as early as 2019. Since then, the university has used its capabilities both to support student learning and to digitalize administrative and management processes. The university has also adopted an artificial intelligence policy and accompanying implementation guidelines that establish rules for the ethical, transparent, and lawful use of AI technologies in the academic environment.

In his role at Google, Dr. Dariusz Wilon supports university leadership teams across Central and Eastern Europe in their digital transformation efforts. He provides training and consultancy to teams and senior leaders on modern approaches to management, collaboration, and organizational change. He is also a speaker at international events, including TEDx and the Vilnius AI Summit. His professional approach places people at the heart of technological change.
