Graphic Design Graduates Showcase Original Books, Typefaces and Digital Applications

23 October 2026

Graduating students from the Graphic Design programme at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” presented original books, typefaces and digital applications as part of their final degree project defences. The presentations took place on 22nd October 2026 before an examination committee chaired by Assoc. Prof. Viktor Petkov, PhD, with Assoc. Prof. Kapka Manasieva, PhD, and Assoc. Prof. Diana Peneva-Sotirova, PhD, serving as committee members. The event brought together students and guests who attended to support the graduates.

The projects demonstrated the diverse applications of graphic design - from fostering visual awareness and aesthetic appreciation in early childhood to improving reading accessibility and encouraging environmentally responsible behaviour.

Among the most outstanding graduation projects were “On the Trail of the Treasure”, an original children's book by Tanya Anesteva; Glowlet, a typeface designed to facilitate reading by Anastasia Shumanova; “Close the Loop”, a waste management app design by Evelina Godemanova; Ruschuk, a serif typeface by Dimitar Todorov; and Eclipse, an original typeface created by Mehnur Niyazieva.

Tanya Anesteva's book highlights the importance of high-quality design in children's publications and its role in developing aesthetic sensitivity from an early age. Anastasia Shumanova's project reflects an understanding of the functional role of typography and its potential to enhance readability.

Dimitar Todorov took on the complex challenge of designing a serif typeface, a process requiring precision in letterform construction and careful attention to the consistency and harmony of individual characters. Mehnur Niyazieva developed Eclipse, a distinctive typeface inspired by calligraphic writing.

The young designers' commitment to social and environmental responsibility was reflected in Evelina Godemanova's project, “Close the Loop”. Her work combines the potential of visual communication with a digital application designed to support waste management and promote sustainable everyday practices.

On the same day, Eva Yarova and Yoanna Hristova successfully defended their master's theses. They presented projects for JAZZЪ, a jazz café, and “Horizons”, a concept for a contemporary art biennial. Both are graduates of the bachelor's programme in Graphic Design and, following their successful thesis defences, completed their studies in the master's programme in Arts and Event Management.
