Happy Celebration to Everyone Who Inspires a Love of Learning!

01 November 2026

Happy Day of the National Enlighteners!
Dear lecturers, students, PhD students, members of staff and friends,
More than a thousand years ago, a courageous monk wrote ‘About the Letters’, thus preserving the language and memory of an entire people. This was Chernorizets Hrabar, one of the first Bulgarian enlighteners, whose name our university bears with pride and a deep sense of responsibility.
On 1st November, we pay tribute to our patron and to all the writers, educators and spiritual leaders who have preserved Bulgarian identity through the centuries. Their legacy reminds us how much can be changed by someone who devotes their life to knowledge.
The spirit of enlightenment lives on in the everyday work of those who teach, conduct research, create and encourage young people to think independently. It is reflected in the patience to explain, the courage to ask a question, and the support that helps someone's talent flourish.
At Varna Free University, this responsibility is shared by every one of us. We are grateful to its founders, who believed that knowledge deserved its own home in Varna; to our lecturers, for the lessons they teach and the example they set; to our students, for their curiosity and desire to discover; and to our staff, who help make the university a preferred place for education, creativity and personal development.
May we continue to cherish respect for the written word, freedom of thought and trust in education! And through our work, may we give future generations every reason to believe in their own potential and in Bulgaria's future.
Happy Celebration to Everyone Who Inspires a Love of Learning!
