“I Can Build - DELECTO” brought together 80 students in Varna and connected education with business

Students from Varna won first place for a project titled “Shared Leisure Space – Installation Type.” Mariella Taptaklieva, Viktoria Kasova, Marina Pencheva, and Natalia Sirakova from the Vocational High School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy “Vasil Levski” in Varna impressed the jury of the “I Can Build – DELECTO” competition with a conceptual project dedicated to their school. The 10th-grade students presented a concept for transforming the schoolyard into functional spaces, featuring outdoor green classrooms, as well as open-air learning and sports areas with innovative architectural solutions. Their project received strong support from the jury. Svetoslav Zhekov, Chairperson of the Varna Regional Office of the Bulgarian Constrjuction Chamber, expressed readiness to support its development. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Dariya Mihaleva, Head of the Building Construction and Facilities Department at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar,” also offered the university’s assistance. Architect Stoyan Petkov, a representative of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria and the Varna Municipal Council on the competition jury, stated that his team would help further develop the concept and support its presentation to the city councilors.
“I Can Build - DELECTO” is one of the most significant educational forums in the construction sector. The initiative brought together 80 high school students from across the country at Varna Free University. The aim of the competition is to connect education, business, and professional organizations. The event is organized by BG Alternativa and the Bulgarian Construction Chamber. Hosting the competition is part of the events marking the 35th anniversary of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” and 30 years since the establishment of its Faculty of Architecture.
First place in the “Preservation of Architectural Heritage” category was awarded to the project “Building History,” developed by the Construction, Architecture, Geodesy and Design High School “Kolyo Ficheto” in Yambol. The award went to Teodora Georgieva, Leyla Hodzic, Lilyana Mitreva, and Yavor Ivanov.
Team “Asenevtsi” from the Vocational High School of Woodworking and Construction “Tsar Ivan Asen II” won first prize in the “Pavilion-Type Building” category. The project was developed by Veselin Yankov, Esil Ibryam, Sinem Mehmedova, Stela Mihaylova, and Teodor Atanasov.
The Varna Regional Office of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber also presented three special awards to participants in the national “I Can Build - DELECTO” competition.
For preservation of architectural heritage, Svetoslav Zhekov awarded Team “Hitstroy” from the Vocational High School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy “Vasil Levski” in Varna. They presented a restoration project for the former Hotel “Commercial,” located in the historic center of the city between Preslav and Odesos streets. The team also placed second overall.
In the “Shared Leisure Space - Installation Type” category, special awards from the Construction Chamber were given to the Vocational High School “Dimitraki Hadzhitoshin” in Vratsa and Team “Obelisk” from the Vocational High School of Architecture and Construction “Arch. Kamen Petkov” in Plovdiv.
