Students from the master's programmes in Cultural Tourism Management and in Advertising and Public Relations in Business Management did an internship in Provadia and Devnya on 13 and 14 June. The practical training combined academic knowledge with direct familiarization with the cultural and historical heritage and the opportunities for its promotion and development.
Led by Assoc. Prof. Georgi Kalaglarski, PhD, head of the two master's programmes, the students listened to a lecture delivered by Prof. Rumen Draganov, PhD dedicated to tourism development strategies, the creation of communication programmes for the promotion of tourist destinations and current initiatives for the development of the national brand "Bulgaria".
With the assistance of Sevdalina Nikolova from the Municipality of Provadia, the participants visited the Prehistoric Salt Mining and Urban Center of Provadia-Solnitsata. There, they met with Acad. Prof. Vasil Nikolov and learned about the history and significance of the site, which is the first in Bulgaria to be awarded the European Heritage Label.
Of particular interest was the visit to the Ovech Fortress, where the students learned more about its historical significance and its place among the most valuable cultural landmarks in the region.
The programme continued in Devnya with the assistance of Diana Radeva. The participants visited the Razsadnika Park, the Devnya Karst Springs and the Museum of Mosaics. The exhibitions presenting the history and techniques of ancient mosaic art, as well as the golden museum treasure, aroused great interest. The students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the rich heritage of ancient Marcianopolis - a significant administrative and spiritual centre during the Roman era. The preserved multi-coloured floor mosaics in the museum are among the most valuable examples of the Roman mosaic art discovered in Bulgaria.
At the end of the internship, the students were invited to visit Provadia and Devnya again to follow the development of the cultural and historical sites included in the practical training programme.
The participants from both master's programmes expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to enrich their knowledge and develop practical skills through direct contact with sites of national and European importance.
