On the eve of 24th May the academic executive body of Varna Free University organized a concert “ Masterpieces of the Russian classic romance”

The festive concert  “ Masterpieces of the Russian classic romance” gathered lecturers, students and employees of Varna Free University on the eve of 24th May - Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture and Slavonic Literacy Day.

  The stylish concert presented the very best of the Russian romance, which is well known to the Bulgarian public for its expressive melody. Born in the first half of the 19th century this genre was very popular among all the circles of the Russian society at that time. Being obligatory for the big social events and  the intimate family  meetings, the romance could be compared to the contemporary pop music.

  Sincere, gentle and passionate, the Russian romance songs are about enchantment and despair, exhilaration and sadness, love and separation. Its romantic nature provokes the emotions and touches the thinnest heart-strings. Easy to understand and close to people this kind of music not only preserves its merits but lends to them some peculiar spiritual patina. It turns them in everlasting delicate pearls that treasure the finest human emotions.

  The idea for the cycle of concerts “Russian romances” belongs to the mezzo-soprano Mihaela Berova and the pianist Russlan Pavlov who is the author of  the orchestrations and the arrangements of some of the compositions. The artists who took part in the cycle of concerts  “ Masterpieces of the Russian classic romance” at Varna Free university were Daniela Dimova – soprano, Vyara Zhelyazkova – mezzo-soprano, Geo Chobanov – basso, as well as the pianist Zhaneta Benun and the string trio “Magnifica” – Marina Vinokurova – violin, Marina Slavcheva – violin and Olena Moshinska – violoncello.

  The musical programme consisted of vocal and instrumental compositions by Russian composers, who created their works on the borderline between 19th and 20th century like Chaikovski, Rahmaninov, Mussorgski, Borodin, Napravnik etc. In addition to some of the most famous Russian romances the audience could also hear songs from the composer Ipolitov-Ivanov for the first time in Varna.

  The festive concert  “ Masterpieces of the Russian classic romance” was held under the patronage of the President of Varna Free University Prof. Anna Nedyalkova, D.Sc and was realized with the support of “Culture” fund of Varna municipality.
