PARTICIPANTS IN THE "CRIMINOLOGY CLUB" ESTABLISHED A CORPS OF WITNESSES FOR THE STATE AUTHORITIES

18 January 2022
The Criminology Club, established on the initiative of students from Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", initiated the establishment of the Corps of Witnesses for the State Authorities. The club will provide the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior with a list of those wishing to be witnesses of the conduct of procedural and investigative actions - inspection, search, seizure, identification and investigative experiments. The members of the Criminology Club are well-trained, young and responsible people who have knowledge in the field of criminology and are interested in the investigation in the pre-trial phase.

The club was established as a result of the course for profiling of unknown perpetrators of crimes held in 2021, organized by the Faculty of Law at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" and taught by Prof. D.Sc. Yonko Kunchev - Dean of the Faculty. The participants (more than 160 people) were psychologists, lawyers, pedagogues, students from various specialties of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", as well as graduates from other universities.
This year, from February 4 to 6, the updated edition of the course "Profiling of Unknown Perpetrators of Crimes" will be held. For three days, issues related to the detection of crimes using the profile of their perpetrator will be discussed. The course will end with solving a practical task - a profile of an unknown perpetrator to be prepared. The training will be online.

From February 18 to 27 in the online classrooms of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" the course "Forensic Studies (investigative actions)", to which great interest was also shown will be held. Within 30 academic hours, participants will learn about the methods of conducting investigative actions. The training in both courses will be done by Prof. D.Sc. Y. Kunchev, who is also the head of the master's degree programme "Forensic Science" at the university.

Prof. Yonko Kunchev is among the best known names in the field of criminology in Bulgaria. He has worked in various structures of the Ministry of Interior - the Criminal Police, the Research Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology and the Academy of the Ministry of Interior. As a researcher, he was involved as a consultant in the detection of serious crimes. With his books, rich practical, research and teaching experience, as well as the forensic offices established with his active participation, he has made a huge contribution to increasing the forensic training of students at the Faculty of Law at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". In 2020 Prof. Kunchev was awarded the Varna Prize for the first volume of the Course in Forensic Studies, for the development of a comprehensive master's degree programme in forensic science and the training module "Forensic Studies" at the university.
