Premiere of the concert-performance 'Step On, Step Up' in Varna

On February 21st, 2025 Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" will present the premiere of the concert-performance 'Step On, Step Up'. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Hall 1 of the Festival and Congress Center - Varna and will offer the audience an exciting journey into the world of Bulgarian wedding traditions.
The performance is a joint production of the Academic Dance Theater at Varna Free University and the Kapan Ensemble - Razgrad. The Academic Dance Theater is the creative workshop of the students majoring in Choreography at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", where young artists improve their skills under the guidance of key lecturers and professionals in the field of folklore dances. As part of their training, students encounter the traditions of various ethnographic areas, study the stylistic features of folk dances and participate in real stage projects.
The Choreography programme at the university is distinguished by its collaboration with the most prominent ensembles in Bulgaria. Students have the opportunity to work with choreographers and performers from famous professional formations, which gives them invaluable practical experience and a chance for professional development in the field of performing arts.
The performance 'Step On, Step Up' will recreate traditional wedding rituals from different parts of Bulgaria with the use of captivating choreography, impactful music and authentic costumes. Viewers will experience the rich cultural heritage passed down through generations, and the artists will immerse them in the atmosphere of the Bulgarian wedding – with its symbols, rituals and emotional moments.
