PROF. VALERI HRISTOV, PHD – LONG-TIME LECTURER AT VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABAR" AND AT THE SMOLYAN BRANCH PASSED AWAY

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Prof. Valeri Hristov, PhD, a long-time lecturer at  Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" and at the Smolyan University Branch, on 22 August 2026.

Prof.  Valeri Hristov, PhD was born in 1956 in Dobrich. In 1980, he graduated from the Academy of the Ministry of Interior in Sofia, majoring in Organization and Management of Public Order and Security, with an educational and qualification degree of Master. In 2002, he obtained the educational and scientific degree of Doctor, and in 2004 he was elected as an associate professor. Subsequently, he became a professor of National Security (Countering Intelligence and Information Activities).

Over the years, he developed his professional qualifications in the field of police work, internal order and security, as well as in the application of modern and innovative forms of training for employees in the security system.

His professional career at Varna Free University began on 1 November 2004 and continued until 1 September 2024. Starting 1 September 2015, he also taught at the Smolyan Branch. With his research and teaching activities, Prof. Hristov contributed to the development and establishment of the professional area of National Security and to the preparation of generations of students.

Prof. Valeri Hristov was a free spirit, a bright personality and a man with a categorical position, who confidently defended his opinion. His colleagues and alumni will preserve the memory of his professional competence, character and dedication to teaching.

The leadership and academic community of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" express their sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
