'Shared Spaces, Shared Dreams' - Student Ideas for Changing the Internal Spaces of Varna Free University

25 September 2024

The exhibition 'Shared Spaces, Shared Dreams' was opened at Varna Free University with projects for the improvement of the common spaces at the university. They are the work of the students Dimana Yotovska, Monika Manova and Shelin Dincher – fifth-year students majoring in Architecture and developed under the guidance of the lecturer Desislava Hristova. The projects were presented to the university management and can be seen in the University's Central Lobby.

Dimana Yotovska presented a project called 'About the Letters', which pays tribute to Chernorizets Hrabar - the patron of the university. The project includes the development of an information panel with the story of Chernorizets Hrabar and a composition with the Bulgarian alphabet. These elements enrich the main entrance lobby and carry the symbolic message that students, lecturers and guests must preserve history and spread it into the future. The concept creates a link between the past and the present, reminding of the importance of knowledge and traditions.

Monika Manova presented a project for the transformation of the main lobby and the adjacent spaces. The main idea is to create a modern and functional environment that inspires and motivates students. The project includes the creation of workspaces, an information area and exhibition panels to offer a dynamic space for learning and creativity. A corner for coffee and drinks for the convenience of the students is also planned.

Shelin Dincher developed a concept for the renovation of the lobbies in front of the Maxima Hall and the Language Center. She uses natural materials for furnishing, which gives warmth and coziness to spaces. Modern lighting that will create an elegant and functional atmosphere, as well as furniture providing comfort for students and visitors are to be installed. Places for recreation and work, which combine comfort and practicality will be placed in the areas.

On September 30, immediately after the official opening of the academic year, the first shared Erasmus space located in building A will also be opened. This space, accessible 24/7, will be a link between the dormitory and the classrooms and will offer students a collaborative environment for work and independent study.
