STUDENTS FROM VARNA FREE UNIVERSITY TRANSFORMED THE FACADES OF THE IZGREV FAMILY-TYPE ACCOMMODATION CENTRE

Students, teachers and volunteers from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” transformed the facades of two of the houses of the Izgrev Family-Type Accommodation Centre. The colourful artistic compositions created by the students are now part of the environment in which the children and youth live.
The initiative is part of the long-standing partnership of the Student Council with the Izgrev Family-Type Accommodation Centre and the non-governmental organization Pregradka. The organization helps volunteer initiatives reach people and communities in need.
Over 40 students of Interior Design, Graphic Design and Fashion Design participated in the competition for the artistic design of the houses. They developed their ideas as course projects in the discipline Painting - Part II under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Donika Kirova, PhD. The initiative builds on the students' experience in transforming the urban environment - as part of the #VarnenskiRaboti project; they decorated benches in the square near the Municipality of Varna with marine and urban motifs.
The projects for the facades of the Izgrev Centre were presented in the exhibition with a cause Design with a Mission, Colour with a Cause, arranged at the university. Look at the Future by Nikolay Todorov and Flight by Katrina Stoyanova - students of Graphic Design, who finished second year, were selected for implementation. The eyes in the first composition symbolise hope, dreams and the courage of a person to find their own path. In Flight, the birds represent the freedom and aspiration of children towards their own nest and flock – the people among whom they find support, belonging and security. The project that gathjered the most votes from the students will also be awarded.
For two weeks, students, teachers and friends of the university transferred the selected compositions onto the facades. The practical work was carried out under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Beatrice Yordanova, Secretary for Student Affairs at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". The driving force behind the initiative on the part of the Student Council was Mihaela Dimitrova, a fourth-year student of Law. A significant contribution to the implementation was made by Desislava Maksimova and Anastasia Shumanova, fourth-year students of Graphic Design.
The bright colours, geometric shapes and silhouettes of birds filled the facades of the two houses with mood, movement and a sense of freedom. For children and young people who grow up without the daily care of their parents, the centre is a home and a place of security. They accepted the new look with joy and took care to protect what was created.
The initiative also created new friendships between the students and children from the Izgrev Centre. All of them, who invested talent, energy and heart in the cause, showed the power of the active university community to turn ideas into actions, and meetings into closeness and friendship.
