Twelve retirees from the club at Kaisieva Gradina joined the pilot group on digital skills and cyber security training. Their guides in the digital world are two students from the professional area of Informatics and Computer Science at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". They train elderly people not only in acquiring basic digital skills but also in the basic safety rules on the Internet. Among the important things that the elderly people will learn are how to protect themselves from online scammers, how to connect with children and grandchildren abroad, without fear of new technologies, what is spam and how not to become victims of false advertising.
According to the
Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) for 2018, Bulgaria ranks 26th among the 28 EU Member States.
The main challenges facing our country are related to the very low level of digital skills in the population and the low level of implementation of digital technologies in the economic activity, according to the report.
Despite the challenges facing our country, this type of trainings are small steps in the process of improving the digital literacy of the elderly and their successful social adaptation. This is a kind of synergy between young people and the academic potential of Varna Free University in support of social inclusion.
The next training is scheduled for
29 November (Thursday) at 13:30 at the Retirement Club in Kaisieva Gradina (on the back of the kindergarten).
Interest in the implementation of such type of training is also dshown by other clubs for elderly people in Varna.
