Student workshop for rehabilitation of urban environment - "CITY REPAIR"

Varna Free University hosted the first student workshop for rehabilitation of urban environment "CITY REPAIR 1.7". The event, organized by two young lecturers in the Department of Architecture and Urbanism - Arch. Peter Stefanov and Arch. Boryana Nozharova is part of the project Open Data for Smart Cities. The project is implemented in partnership with the Department of Informatics and Computer Science and ICT Cluster - Varna and is financed by the Municipality of Varna and the program "Varna - European Youth Capital 2017".

 

 

The student workshop was attended by students of Varna Free University majoring in "Architecture" and "Design". The ten participants, divided into two groups, worked on the adaptation of the space of a famous building in the city, which currently houses the Primorski city-hall. After being acquainted with the history of the building, the pictures and the original drawings, the students had to analyze the history and function of the building during different periods of its life and offer space adaptations according to the new administrative function.

 

 

Jury of five architects - Arch. Petar Stefanov, Arch. Boryana Nozharova, Arch. Petar Petrov, Arch. Plamen Petrov and Arch. Yavor Panev assessed the students’ projects. Both teams presented their ideas for revitalization and an active discussion between the participants, jury and audience followed regarding the future of the buildings in Varna.

 

 

The participants said that the workshop CITY REPAIR 1.7 gave them a lot of new knowledge and skills related to the mating, the organization of the work process in the short term and the analysis of existing buildings. They also shared their ideas for future workshops. The mock-ups made within the workshop will be exhibited in the lobby of the VFU Chernorizets Hrabar and at the Architect's House. Exhibitions in the Municipality of Varna and the Primorski city-hall will follow.
