Successful performance of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" at the National University Winter Games "Borovets-2018"
From March 11th to March 15th, 2018, in Borovetz resort, over 200 athletes from different universities from Bulgaria competed on the snow slopes in five disciplines in the National University Winter Games "Borovets-2018". The representative alpine skiing team of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" took part in it with: Assist. Prof. Katerina Chongova, Ivelina Kostova, Svilen Asparuhov, Simeon Savov and the team leader Assoc. Prof. Ognian Kuchev.
In the individual disciplines, the VFU team is ranked as follows:
- Cross-country skiing - discipline "Interval start" - 1st place - women and gold medal - Assist. Prof. Katerina Chongova;
- Cross-country skiing - "Interval Start" discipline - 2nd place - women and silver medal - Ivelina Kostova;
- Cross-Country Skiing - "Sprint Sprint" discipline - 2nd place - women and silver medal of the team comprised by Assist. Prof. Katerina Chongova and Ivelina Kostova;
- Cross-country running - Team Ranking I-Place-women;
- Discipline "Ski Rally" - 3rd place - women and bronze medal - Assist. Prof. Katerina Chongova;
- Discipline "Ski Rally" - 6th Place - Women - Ivelina Kostova;
- Snowboard - discipline "Giant Slalom" - Svilen Asparuhov took part in it;
- Alpine skiing - discipline "Giant slalom" – Assist. Prof. Katerina Chongova and Ivelina Kostova took part in women’s events; Simeon Savov took part in men’s events;
- Discipline "Fast sled" - a team consisting of Simeon Savov and Ivelina Kostova took part in it.
The successful performance of the team from Varna Free University is a result of the serious preparation of the coaching team - Assist. Prof. Katerina Chongova - coach of the team and Assoc. Prof. Ognian Kachev - Head of the Department of Personal Protection and Sport at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar".
