Two teams from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” will take part in the National Criminal Law Competition, organized by the Association of Prosecutors in Bulgaria, the Faculty of Law at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), and the Research Center for Criminal Justice, Criminalistics and Criminology at UNWE. The competition will be held on April 25th, 2026, at the building of the Sofia District Court – Criminal Division.

The teams from Varna Free University include fourth-year and fifth-year full-time Law students: Vanesa Dragneva, Elisaveta Nikolova, Yoana Simeonova, Maria-Yoana Donkova, Nedyalko Kolev, Atanas Petrov, Eva Ivanova, and Mihaela Dimitrova.

Their mentors are Judge Krasimir Shekerdzhiev from the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Cassation of Bulgaria and Chief Assistant Professor Dr. Daniel Iliev – a prosecutor at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Dobrich and a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Varna Free University.

Participants will work on a complex case with a rich factual background, formulate its legal qualification, and defend their conclusions in both written and oral rounds before a jury composed of sitting magistrates. The competition takes place within a single day and aims not only to determine a winning team, but also to promote high academic and professional standards in legal education.

Among the participants is also the team that won first place in the National Student Competition in Criminal Law Sciences, organized by the Law Club “Prof. Tamara Hinova” at the Student Council and the Faculty of Law at Varna Free University earlier this April.
