The basketball player Bozhidar Avramov: How to have good professional sport - higher education balance

09 Април 2025

Bozhidar Avramov is a name that basketball fans in Bulgaria know well. An active player in the Lokomotiv Plovdiv team and winner of the Bulgarian Basketball League Cup, Bozhidar managed not only to establish himself in the sport, but also to successfully complete his higher education at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", choosing the distance learning form, which allowed him to maintain both his ambitions - sports and university (during our preparation for the interview, he successfully passed his state exams).

"As an active athlete, education sometimes remained in the background, but with effort and a lot of perseverance I managed to combine the two things," said Bozhidar.

He does not know the routine - he trains, plays in matches, travels around the country and abroad. In the previous years, he played in Italy, lived in Pleven, and almost every day of his life was different. It is precisely because of this dynamic that distance learning has proven to be the best choice for him:

“The full-time study mode simply wasn’t possible. Distance learning has helped me prioritize.”

He studies whenever it is possible – sometimes he prepares early in the morning before practice, other times in the evening after a match. The flexible schedule allows him to make time for studying without compromising his athletic form "The biggest advantage of distance learning for athletes is that you don't have to be physically at the university every day. You can organize your time according to your own rhythm."

“The earlier you start your education, the easier it will be to finish it without unnecessary delays. I wish the prospective students success – you have chosen the right university!”, said the successful Bulgarian basketball player.

The story of Bozhidar Avramov is an inspiration for all who strive for development in both sports and education. It proves that with good organization, perseverance and the suitable mode of study anything is possible.
