What is it like to be a mayor during a war? How do volunteerism and assistance change the life of the city in critical moments? How did Varna go through the trials of the First World War?
The book-album 'Varna in the Great War', which will be presented at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”, provides answers to these questions. The event will take place on February 17th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the University Library.
The authors of the study, Simeon Kulish and Trayan Dimitrov, will tell us about the role of Varna and its residents during the war by the use of archival documents, photographs and testimonies from that era. The book focuses on the management of the city in times of crisis, as well as on the contribution of Varna residents to support the war efforts and civil society.
Simeon Kulish is a history teacher and scientific secretary of the Thracian Scientific Institute, Varna branch. Trayan Dimitrov is the head of the New History Department at the Regional History Museum – Varna and a member of the Thracian Institute.
The event is aimed at students, teachers and everyone who is interested in Varna’s past. The aim is to popularize historical knowledge and encourage discussion about the city’s place in the national and world history.
We look forward to seeing you!
