“THE DRINKING FOUNTAINS IN VARNA AND IN ITS SURROUNDINGS" - A LOCAL HISTORY STUDY WAS PRESENTED AT THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

The presentation of the book “The drinking fountains in Varna and in its surroundings” by Varna local historian Ivan Popov took place in the library of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”. The edition, published by the Ongal Publishing House, documents 553 drinking fountains in Varna and its surroundings.

The book was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Marinov, PhD from the Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Postgraduate Qualification. He emphasised the importance of the study both from a local history and cultural-historical perspective.

The work on collecting information began in the spring of 2024, and in the course of the study, the author published "Guide to the drinking fountains within 25 km of Varna". The new book presents the results of the expanded study, providing systematised reference information on water facilities in the region.

The study reveals valuable data on the location, names and traditions associated with the construction of drinking fountains in the Varna region. Through this work, the topic of preserving the architectural, historical and natural heritage is revived and updated. The author emphasizes the need to preserve the fountains as important evidence of the cultural memory of the region.
