15 Април 2026

The exhibition “Galaxy Library - The Books of Free People” was opened today in the Central Foyer of Varna Free University. It brings together different generations of readers around one of the most influential book series in Bulgaria and emphasizes the power of reading as a personal choice and a form of freedom.

During the presentation, music specially composed for the documentary film was played - an emotional backdrop that enriched the experience and transported the audience back to the world of books. Lecturers and staff shared personal memories and experiences connected to Galaxy Library, speaking with affection and nostalgia about the books that have left a lasting mark on their lives.

The event is held on the eve of World Book and Copyright Day and introduces visitors to the spirit of “Galaxy Library” - a space where literature expands horizons and shapes thinking. Curator Petya Mihaylova presented the history behind the creation of the series and its significance for the cultural environment. The opening also featured Mira Arnaudova and Stanislav Evstatiev - creators of the documentary film dedicated to “Galaxy Library”.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors until April 24th and marks the beginning of a series of events focused on reading, book design, publishing, and translation. The programme includes an exhibition of editions from the series at the University Library, a screening of the documentary film on April 22nd at 1:30pm in Aula Maxima, and a Reading Marathon at the University Library on April 23rd - World Book and Copyright Day - with the participation of students and lecturers.

This year’s edition of the Reading Marathon is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jack London - a writer whose work continues to inspire with its spirit and freedom of thought. The University Library will become a space for sharing favorite texts in different languages, where participants will have the opportunity to present excerpts along with their translations.

With this initiative, the university reaffirms its mission to promote reading as a value that connects people and builds a community around knowledge and culture.
