THE PRIZE OF THE 11th EDITION OF THE NATIONAL COMPETITION "VARNA SPAGHETTI ENGINEERING" GOES TO SHUMEN

On the Day of the National Enlighteners, Varna Free University gathered the most creative future engineers and architects in the 11th edition of the national competition for creative skills "Varna Spaghetti Engineering". The educational and sports complex was filled with inspiration, ambition and spirit, and the participants impressed the jury with knowledge, imagination and excellent teamwork.
After an intense competition, the best were awarded:
First place – team "Hasta La Vista" - Mertan Ibryamov, Radoslav Delineshev and Stanislav Andreev, from the Vocational Secondary School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy in Shumen.
Second place – "Future Makers" - Monika Lyubenova, Viktor Sotirov and Natalia Sirakova from the Vocational Secondary School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Vasil Levski" in Varna.
Third place – "Pasta Masters" - Ismet Osman, Daniela Garneva and Kristina Petkanska from the the Vocational School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Kolyo Ficheto" in Burgas.

The Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design honoured the "NOIT" team consisting of: Victoria Trifonova, Petar Yanev and Samuil Shemuni, students at the Sofia Secondary School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Hristo Botev".
The Bulgarian Chamber of Builders awarded the prize for the best presentation to the team "Project X" from the Vocational School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Angel Popov" in Veliko Tarnovo, consisting of Vyara Stoyanova, Petya Dimitrova and Yordan Yanakiev. The team is led by Arch. Martin Lazarov - a graduate of Varna Free University and a former participant in the competition. The three eleventh graders impressed the jury and guests with a presentation combining engineering precision and artistry (see the presentation below).
The Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria awarded "Steel of Spaghetti" from the Vocational School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Kolyo Ficheto" in Burgas for the most beautiful and slender structure. The winners were Ralitsa Kisyova, Anastasia Edreva and Liliya Valieva.
This year’s task challenged the participants to design and build a flat roof structure supported by only one column, with a minimum height of 50 centimetres, covering the largest possible area and withstanding a concentrated load of at least 300 grams. To complete the task, the teams had limited materials at their disposal – two packages of spaghetti weighing a total of one kilogram and a hot glue gun, as well as 180 minutes to complete the project.
The atmosphere during the competition was extremely energising and creative. The future engineers and architects showed precision, logical thinking and imagination, and their mentors – students from the Construction of Buildings and Structures and Architecture majors – supported them in every step of the preparation.
The Sofia Vocational Secondary School team filmed a video that shows the beauty of the university campus and the inspiration of the participants.
The event was opened by Assoc. Prof. Eleonora Tankova, PhD, Deputy Rector for Institutional Cooperation and Development of Varna Free University, who emphasised that the competition embodies the university's aspiration to build an environment in which young people develop their potential and create a community of future mentors. Assoc. Prof. Eng. Rositsa Petkova-Slipets, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, congratulated the participants and noted that 1 November is an emblematic date, and the eleven teams are the champions who are starting their professional growth.
The competition is organised by the Department of Construction of Buildings and Structures at the Faculty of Architecture of Varna Free University with the support of the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design, the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria, the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria, Hidrostroy AD, Planex Varna, Atrim, MS Build Invest, Apartinvest Ivanovi and Rofix. Media partners are the Stroitel newspaper, Bulgarian National Radio - Radio Varna and the news agency Moreto.net.

Bad weather conditions,

For this reason, our construction,
consisting of a thin, solid stand
and a flat roof structure,
with more than one important function,
resembles an umbrella,
which has become a good friend to us in recent days.
The difference is that this creation,
in addition to being your salvation in the rain,
will also provide you with strength
and save you from other disasters.
It protects from evil,
catches your eye.
With its appearance,
with the Star of David placed on top.
As beautiful as it is,
it is also frugal:
