THE STUDENT COUNCIL OF VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABER" WILL PRESENT AN AWARD FOR THE MOST UNITED TEAM AT THE NATIONAL COMPETITION FOR CREATIVE SKILLS VARNA SPAGHETTI ENGINEERING

The Student Council of Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" will present an award for the most united team to one of the 13 teams that will take part in the eighth edition of the National Creative Skills Competition Varna Spaghetti Engineering. The 13 school student groups will represent the leading vocational high schools in architecture, construction and geodesy in the country. This year they will compete in designing and building towers made from spaghetti.

The event will be held on April 1, 2023, traditionally organized and hosted by the Construction of Buildings and Facilities Department at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". The team that organizes the competition is the winner of the 2019 Varna Award.
The official opening of the National Competition will be at 9:00 a.m. in Hall 1 of the University Academic and Sports Complex.

The 13 student three-member teams will have at their disposal 2 hours - from 9:30 to 11:30. The Vocational High School of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy in Varna will be represented by three teams, Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Veliko Tarnovo with two each, and Shumen and Burgas - with one team. Mentors of the teams will be 13 students from Varna Free University majoring in Construction of Buildings and Facilities and Architecture. Each of the groups will have a construction base with a construction line, 400g of spaghetti, 5 silicone fillers and a gun for them, a ruler and a modeling knife. According to the regulation, the base of the towers must fit into the given construction situation, and the highest point must unite at least three pieces of spaghetti ("antenna" type solutions will not be considered).

Five-member committee composed of: Prof. Ivan Pavlov, Ph.D. - Acting Head of the Construction of Buildings and Facilities Department at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", Eng. Snezhana Mileva, Chairperson of the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design - Varna Regional Branch, Eng. Stamat Stamatov from the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria - Varna, arch. Nikolay Rachinski - Chairman of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria - Varna and arch. Georgi Naydenov from the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria - Regional Branch - Varna, will evaluate the spaghetti models in terms of height, shapeliness, economy, earthquake resistance and creativity. The jury will decide who are the winning team and who comes second and third, who will receive monetary and material prizes.

The student jury will award the most united team. The members of the jury are: Tsvetan Mitev - president of the Student Council and a student in Architecture, Boyan Kurliev - a student in Construction of Buildings and Facilities, and the third vote will be given by the "golden class" of students - mentors of the teams. The most united student team will receive the special plaque of the Student Council of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", a diploma and awards.

The Varna Spaghetti Engineering National Creative Skills Competition is one of the most successful formats for encouraging out-of-the-box thinking and imagination among young people. The Construction of Buildings and Facilities Department at Varna Free University brings together students from the vocational high schools of architecture, construction and geodesy, students from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" and professionals from the construction industry, for the creation of unique structures made of spaghetti, and also provoke creativity, ingenuity, team spirit and together with that develops interest in the construction profession.
 
Traditionally, the partners supporting the project are "Savimex" LtD with "Gold Class" products, the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria and the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design. The Stroitel newspaper - the official media of the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria, is a media partner of the event.
